Not At Watsons !!! – pub tales

The Sun Newspaper 15th Nov 1903

Mr J R Watson, licensee of the Boorara Hotel, referring to a couple of ‘They Says’ ( like ‘Heard on Hannan’) pars in last weeks paper, writes:- ‘Mine is the only licenced house at Boorara and we see nothing of fighting and gambling and see considerably less of feminine yelling and foul language. The young ladies in my bar are not of the yelling variety, nor would I put up with language of the kind indicated. I do not know that your ‘They Says’ were warrented by anything that has happened at Boorara within my knowledge.”
Editors Note:- The pars were in the essence of a communication and did not specifically indicate Mr Watson House

boorara

This was the gist of the offending article:- The Sun 8 Nov 1903
That some of the ladies at Boorara are encouraging lite boys to make things merry. That with drinking, gambling, fighting, feminine yelling and a lot of et cetera, the place is one for a missionary to keep away from.
