Mystery Box – in the Gala Annual Show!

15/09/2017 By Moya Sharp 1 Comment

I came across this following photograph dated 20 Sep 1900 and immediately thought that the wooden item in the top of the display looked very much like the case which held the petition for separation from the rest of Western Australia. Im not sure if they were the makers of the box but it looks very similar to me, what do you think? A closer view can be made here:–
Kalgoorlie Traders Gala Society’s third Annual Show : J Crothers, Kalgoorlie Steam Joinery Works Exhibit.–First Prize for Timber Merchant’s Display, and Second Prize for Painted Vehicle.

Wooden casket made to hold the Goldfields Petition for separation from the rest of Western Australia and Federation with the East.

    Hi Moya,
To me if you zoom right in it looks like a Barromitor (sic) for weather conditions or some sort of scales .. as it has a face, with a hammer or wooden scoop hanging beside the face .. there is writing on the face, but I can’t read it .. bugga 🙂 X
