Isabel (Isabella) Waugh was born on the 7th of February 1873 in Redpath, Haltwhistle, Northumberland, England. She was the daughter of Thomas Waugh (1821-1882) and Anne nee Henderson. The English Census of 1891 shows Isabella, aged 18yrs, living as a housekeeper to her brother, William Henderson/Waugh, a shepherd. She arrived in Australia between 1891-1894.

In 1894 Isabel had a daughter to George Hodgson/Hodson, Mary ‘May’ Victoria Hodgson in Perth, Western Australia. They don’t appear to have been married, but Mary took her father’s name. George was to die from Typhoid in Cue Western Australia on the 8th of April 1895 aged 29yrs, less than a year after his daughter’s birth. He was born in 1865 in Marysville, Victoria to William HOSDON and Maria WEAVER.

Obituary – A heavy blow has struck Mr. J. A. Henderson, an accountant in this office (Kalgoorlie Miner Newspaper), whose wife died on Saturday morning, within 48 hours of the birth of their second child. On Friday, Mrs. Henderson was doing very well, and no one was prepared for the sudden oncoming of death. The interment took place in the Kalgoorlie Cemetery Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. Alexander Crow as officiating, minister. The attendance at the funeral, and the number of wreaths sent, spoke of the sorrow of many at the death of Mrs. Henderson. and of sympathy with the bereaved husband and children. Four of Mr. Henderson’s fellow employees in this office carried the coffin to and from the hearse. Mrs. Henderson. whose demise is deeply lamented by all who knew her, had reached the young age of 28 years. Among the numerous wreaths sent, were those from the firm of Hocking and Co., Mr. and Mrs. Hocking, and the accountancy, commercial shop, literary, and mechanical staffs.
