Western Australian Heritage Trails-

Back in 2001, I approached what was then called the WA Heritage Committee, to ask if there was any likelihood that the booklet on the ‘York to Goldfields Heritage Trail’ in the WA Heritage Trails Network – Bicentennial Project for Community Participation series of books, might be updated. My husband and I have attempted to follow the trail, using my copy of the books, and found that most of the plaques at the various points along the trail were still there. The book however was outdated as some of the landmarks had been changed. I then asked for permission to publish a new booklet incorporating the plaques if they had survived. The did give me a letter of permission which now I suppose will be null and void as the name of the body is now ‘State Heritage’ (I think!). It was a retirement project for my husband and myself.

The W.A. Heritage Trails Network is a network of heritage trails and places in Western Australia that was initially funded by the Australian Commonwealth/State Bicentennial Commemorative Program for the 1988 Australian Bicentenary. In many cases local communities and councils collaborated with the National Trust of Australia (WA) to research and develop local trails.

Moya, I would just like to say how very much I enjoy your stories on Facebook. I look for them and read every word. You bring our history to life in a very knowledgable way. My Mother spent some time in the Goldfields as a youngster many of her father;s brothers were there also. (Surname Boylan). So your stories of there are of particular interest. Thank you and all the best.
