Ripping Yarns and Tragic Tales – News 30th January 2022

29/01/2022 By Moya Sharp Leave a Comment

Its been a while since I have been in touch with you all apart from our weekly emails You may have noticed last week we had a bit of a glitch and the newsletter didn’t appear till later in the week and when it did, it repeated some previous stories. I won’t go into what happened but would like to give my apologies, all is sorted out now although it took till Thursday to fix, as these things tend to do.

It has been a very eventful week for both me and Outback Family History. Last Sunday night I was invited to speak to Harvey Deegan on the 6PR show ‘Remember When’ which was great and we talked for some time about the websites, how they came about, and what they offer to people interested in the WA Goldfields. I was caught on the hop when he asked me to pick two favorite stories which was very hard. See ‘Almost Killed with Kindness’ in the following stories.

The second ‘huge’ thing for me personally and which you may already know about is being the recipient of the Order of the Medal of Australia for services to community history in the Australia Day Honours list. I was totally overwhelmed with kind wishes and lovely messages. To all those who sent me their kind regards, I want you to know it is very much appreciated. I am very honored indeed to be a recipient and I never thought my history work would result in such an award. There will be an investiture ceremony later in the year in Perth at Government House when the medal will be presented. No set date has been given as yet but maybe April/May. I’m so nervous already!

Wishing all of our readers a very Happy New Year – I hope that this year will bring better things to us all. Thank you so much for your continued support.
