Norseman – books and photographs

Norseman is a town on the edge of the places covered by the Outback Family History web site and blog. If you are interested in the history of the town and the surrounding area I would like to recommend the following three books. There may be others, but there are ones I have myself or have read.

A Westralian Gold Rush : Memories of Norseman 1936-1951. Author – O’Brien, Tom published in 1981.

Gold fever : Norseman est. 1894 : a historical and social account of 120 mining years in Norseman, Western Australia by Claire Weir. This beautifully presented A4 book will be sure to please. Made to a high standard with lots of photographs as well as a concise history of Norseman. I can highly recommend it to you.
It can be purchased by the following this link – Gold Fever

Norseman Our First Ten Years – 1894-1904 by Ron Gibbons – Published in Norseman’s Centenary year 1994.

As you will see these books each cover a different period in Norseman’s History. The town is of great historical importance as it was considered the gateway to the West from the Eastern States and is situated on the edge of the Nullarbor Plain. It is also midway between the gold mining areas of Kalgoorlie Boulder and the popular sea side resort of Esperance.
