JOHN RESIDE.   –    The sudden death of John Reside, M.L.A. for Hannans, which took place at Kalgoorlie last Sunday evening, came as an absolute shock to the whole community. The cause of death was heart affection. Mr Reside was a native of Victoria, and was born at White Hills, Bendigo, in 1869. He was, therefore, only 33 years of age. He was educated at a public school. After working some years as a miner, he applied himself to the study of engine-driving, and qualified as an engine-driver when only 19 years of age. He came to Westralia in 1897. He joined the Engine-Drivers  Association, and soon took a prominent part in its affairs. He was one of the founders, and, for two years, the president of the Trades and Labor Council. He was the chosen Labor candidate for Hannans at the last general election, and was returned by a majority of over a thousand votes. He was an open-minded and courageous public man, and even those who differed from his views recognised his sincerity and admired his courage. The Worker tenders its deepest sympathy to the unhappy relatives in their great sorrow.
