Gold and Liquid Gold – book review

Gold and Liquid Gold by Geoff Spiller

Obsolete Breweries of the Western Australian Goldfields:- Published by the WA Museum

This excellent book is divided into the various towns in the Goldfields that had breweries (just about them all). It tells how each brewery started and about the people who ran them. It tells of the difficulties of brewing beer in places with little water and about the beer they produced. Its  full of photographs of breweries, advertising posters, bottle labels and much more. Well worth reading.

From the bigger breweries like the Hannans Brewery to small one man operations such as the Credo Brewery that only lasted one year.

One form of beer promotion was to advertise community responsibility to consume the product.
