Watch Where You Walk !!!

22/10/2016 By Moya Sharp 2 Comments

For many long term residents we may all have heard of the odd old mine shaft opening up in someones backyerd after a big rain storm. There have even been a couple I have seen in the middle of the road (both in Boulder). However there are many old shafts within the city centre which have hopefully been properly filled in or built over. My mother in law, Lorna Sharp, used to live in a house in Hinemoa Street, Lamington where there was a mine shaft directly under the bedroom floor (not very conducive of a good nights sleep I thought!).

I came across the following article many years ago and just found it again and thought it would be of interest.

From the Western Argus Tues 29th April 1930 pg 15:-

Interesting article, Moya, especially about the shaft over the Kalgoorlie Town Hall. I lived in Hinemoa Street for a short while when I was about 3 years old and then we moved to Hare Street.
