The Rudwick – Bartle Wedding ❤

13/03/2021 By Moya Sharp Leave a Comment

Some time ago I wrote a blog post about a couple who were left waiting at the church. To illustrate the story I included a previously unknown local ‘Bride and Groom’. I was later contacted by OFH reader, Maureen Bartle, who said –

“I really enjoy reading your stories on the blog, and was so excited to recognise the bride and groom in your story of “Left waiting at the Church”. I see you said you were unable to name the bridal pair, but I am able to name them both for you!

Annie BARTLE & George Francis RUDWICK 1910

“They are Annie BARTLE & George Francis RUDWICK, they married on the 5th October 1910, in St Matthew’s Church, Boulder. Annie is my husband Barry’s grandfather’s sister. I have a photo of the whole wedding party, but have not seen the photo you posted before. I have attached the full photograph and can can name most of the people”.

The photo shows all the six surviving children of Philip BARTLE ,(my husband’s great-grandfather ) born Tywardreath, Cornwall, England on 2 Apr 1857, and who died 9 Aug 1902 in Boulder WA, and is buried in the Old Boulder Cemetery. He was a Miner, who went to Pennsylvania aged 13 with his family. He and one brother William, then came on to Australia when he was 19.

He married three times, losing his first two wives (Mary Jane MANN & Eliza IVES) in childbirth. It always amazes me how far he travelled. Philip arrived in Victoria, went to South Australia, then to Drake, NSW near the QLD border, then on to Broken Hill, and then finally, to Kalgoorlie Western Australia. His second wife Eliza Ives, was the sister of Alfred Ives, who was the founder of Ives Reward Gold Mine near Kambalda WA.

I’m presuming the unnamed children belong to Joseph & Adeline ‘Ali’, and Sydney & Alice Tonkin, the Ali’s had a daughter Gladys b 1900, who is probably the other girl, and a son James born 1905.
