BOULDER- TOWN HALL.  ‘THE CORRICK FAMILY” Saturday 14th August 1909.

The Corrick Family continued their Boulder season last night. There was a large attendance in the popular portion of the house. The items of the program consisted of orchestral selections and choruses by the full strength of the company and a fine handbell performance, which was received with much satisfaction.

‘Miss Ethel Corrick sang her favorite number, ‘I Like Your Old French Bonnet,’ and the company joined in the chorus. She had to respond to an encore! Miss Alice Corrick sang ‘Se Saran Rose’ with splendid effect, and, in response to an encore, she gave “Comin’ Thro’ the Rye”. In the second part, she sang ‘Gounod’s ‘Serenada,’ with violin obbligato and she was again encored. Miss Amy Corrick gave a piccolo solo, and Miss Ruby, the cornetist. gave a solo ‘The Minstrel Boy.’ Miss Ethel and Mr. Leonard Corrick danced a sailor’s hornpipe. Mr. Ernest Leathley, the comedian of the company, infused plenty of mirth into the program and further variety was given by a splendid display of well-selected moving pictures. The company will appear again tonight.

Musical families forming groups and touring around the state to entertain were very popular in the early 1900s.  The Corrick Family were one of the largest and well-known and between 1906-1913 they came to Kalgoorlie, Boulder, and then toured the northern goldfields on a number of occasions. All their performances were well attended and the range of their talents not only included singing and playing an array of instruments but dancing, bell ringing, comedy and ‘moving picture’ shows which they filmed themselves.

Albert and Sarah Alice (nee Calvert) Corrick raised a family of seven daughters and one son. Emily Eleanor Gertrude (‘Gertie’), born 5 December 1878, Alice May, born 4 March 1880 Amy Beatrice, born 11 November 1882, Ethel Mildred, born 20 September 1884, Henry John Leonard (‘Leonard’, ‘Sonny’), born 26 October 1886, Ruby Florence Elizabeth, born
1 May 1888, Jessie Winifred, born 27 October 1892, and Elsie Collingwood, born 31 August 1894.

The National Film and Archives have released the following film clip which has some footage filmed by ‘Sonny’ Corrick and images from the collection.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOJE74dCY7w

Leonard Corrick was my grandfather. John Corrick (my father) used to put on picture shows in our garage, using Grandpa’s silent movies that Dad had preserved, for children from our neighbourhood and for us, much to our delight. Interesting reading Thankyou. Jenny Lakeland née Corrick

How wonderful, do you still have the films in the family?
