The Maid From Mullingar –

20/07/2019 By Moya Sharp 1 Comment

THE MAID FROM MULLINGAR
From The Sun, 16 July 1905

She was a maiden from Melbourne,
Modest and bashful in style,
a neat little jigger, with a capital figure
and such a sweet Sunday School smile.

In service she worked as a housemaid
and turned out a regular star,
for when she went out, they boys they would shout,
Ho! The Maid from Mullingar.

He was an ancient Lothario,
prop of the church, but aside.
With a stake in the Rue and in Hannan street too,
And terraces on t’otherside.

His wife she was living in Melbourne,
where the four little Laslett’s are
all was well till he met the dear pet
The maid from Mullingar

Her smile it captivated him,
her ankle turned his head,
as he embraced her slender waist;
Ho! fly with me,” he said,

Ho! come with me to London town.
With laughs at bolt, and bar
So come with me across the sea
Sweet maid of Mullingar

And now Kalgoorlie damsels,
are weeping at the fall,
and of her whose slip, had won a trip
And stole a march on all.

And now Kalgoorlie Johnnies,
curse loud at every bar,
The pious joint who scored a point
and the maid from Mullingar.

Note: Mullingar is a suburb of Kalgoorlie
