WW1 Soldiers from the Yilgarn (Southern Cross)

WW1 Soldiers from the Yilgarn (Southern Cross) district of Western Australia.

This slim book was kindly given to me by Sandra Playle and features portraits of service men and women of the Yilgarn District (Southern Cross District of the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia) . In particular there are many excellent photographs of WW1 soldiers and details of which this is one, it is: 771 L/Cpl G.N.G. Cousinns 16th Btn AIF Enlisted 19.10.1914 RTA 20.10.1915. The first Southern Cross man to return from the Great War.

The following are other WW1 servicemen from the area, if anyone one is interested in them I can scan for you or I can search other conflicts from Boer War to Korea and Vietnam:-

It also includes a list of returned soldiers for the Yilgarn District who served overseas in 1914-1918, which I can supply if interested.

The “War Service Personnel of the Yilgarn 1900-1972” is a wonderful book and is dedicated to my husband’s Uncle, Doug Davey (Lt EDH Davey MBE). These books can also be purchased from the Shire of Yilgarn, if someone wanted a copy to keep. It is great for family history research having all the photos in it.

Hi Kerry So glad to hear the book is still available. I am going to be listing all goldfields history books on my site soon and where they can be purchased. Can you tell me how much a copy is and what the postal charges are and the contact details. Does the Shire sell any other publications?

      Many thanks Moya

I just spoke to the Shire of Yilgarn and they have:
Yilgarn: Good Country for Hardy People $40
        Bullfinch $35
        Koolyanobbing $35
        Yellowdine $30
Shire of Yilgarn – Ph 90491001 for postal charges etc.
The War Service Personnel of the Yilgarn 1900-1972 is available from the Yilgarn History Museum, Ronice Blair is the Secretary and she works at the Community Resource Centre – Ph 90491688. The Shire didn’t have any stock of this one when I spoke to them today.
        Thanks Kerry

Hi Moya I am researching my Great Uncle’s war records and would appreciate a copy of Soldiers of WW1 from the Yilgarn (Southern Cross) district of Western Australia.” I am in desperate need of a photo of him to put in a frame with all his war medals. He was awarded the DCM medal for gallantry. His name is Thomas Bernard Sullivan. I look forward to your reply.

      Hi Colleen,
The War Service Personnel of the Yilgarn 1900-1972 is available from the Yilgarn History Museum, Ronice Blair is the Secretary and she works at the Community Resource Centre. You could try her on Ph 90491688 tomorrow. The Shire Council Office didn’t have any of these books when I visited a few weeks ago. Kerry
