A Murchison Wedding

Western Mail 1 September 1900, page 46

WEDDING at Abbotts (Murchison), on Tuesday. August 7th, 1900, the marriage took place of Mr. James Charles Tichborne to Miss Teresa Power. The bridegroom is one of the pioneers of the place, and the bride also is well known. This is the first wedding that has taken place in Abbotts, and so the event was one of unusual interest. Mr, Richardson, a clergyman from Cue, performed the service in the bride’s new home, and many friends witnessed the ceremony.
Mr. Caulton gave the bride away. Mr. Campbell acted as best man, and Miss Hyde as bridesmaid. The bride looked pretty in dove-coloured silk, trimmed with pink velvet and chiffon, she wore a wreath and veil and carried a large bouquet. The bridesmaid wore white and blue, with lace and chiffon.
After the ceremony the usual toasts were honoured, Mr. Richardson proposing the toast of the bride and bridegroom. In the evening a dance was given by Mr. and Mrs. Tichborne in the Miners’ Arms Hotel, and the largest crowd ever assembled in Abbotts made merry till the small hours in the morning. Mr. Dudley Campbell provided the music. The bride received many useful and valuable presents.

Hi Moya, My great-grandfather, Thomas William Tichborne, was the brother of James Charles Tichborne whose wedding you’ve highlighted here. Was this the only wedding ever performed in Abbotts? And is the wedding photo from James’ and Teresa’s wedding, or from a different town?

Hi Julie As far as I can tell by the records thetre was the only marraige recorded at Abbotts. No unfortunately this is not their wedding photo. The names of the wedding party is not know for this photo, just that it was in front of the Murchison Hotel which is Nannine.
