Ripping Yarns & Tragic Tales - 15 Aug 2021

Good Morning Readers – I hope that you have had a good week.

This month marks the 8th anniversary of the start of the Outback Family History Blog. I can’t believe it, the time has gone so fast! When I look back on my very early posts I find them a bit cringe-worthy, but I’m trying to improve and change things all the time. I’m sure I will look back on today’s posts at a later date, and think the same.

We have now nearly 8000 people on the mailing list which goes out every Sunday (depending on where you live) with 3-4 new stories a week in one email. The blog has 1286 stories on it as of now, so I’m sure if you did a ‘keyword’ search you would find something of interest to you.

FAST FACTS- 70% of visitors are in Australia, 10% in the USA, 15% United Kingdom, 5% Elsewhere. Almost 50/50 are accessed on PC or Mobile. In the last 6yrs, when we joined ‘Google Analytics, we have had 936,705 page views – How Awesome is that???? I hope you will join me in wishing the blog a happy birthday!

Published last year “Our Shadows by Gail Jones” tells the story of three generations of family living in Kalgoorlie, where gold was discovered in 1893 by an Irish-born prospector named Paddy Hannan, whose own history weaves in and out of this beguiling novel.

Last week I presented a report to the Shire of Leonora outlining the work we have done on the two Leonora Cemeteries over the last six months. I’m happy to say it was very well received and over the next few weeks, I will be doing a few ‘Snapshots’ from the records so you can see what we have been doing.

Which cemetery shall be next I ask. I think it will be either Cue or Laverton.
