I was recently sent the following photos by Alan O’Meara which are from the documents of his father, James Jeremiah O’Meara.

The Piccadilly Hotel, Kalgoorlie 1930, Publican Sam Percy is 6th from the left with his arms folded wearing a cardigan.

Outside the Piccadilly Hotel:- Left to right. “Digger” Thomas, Bert “the Barber”, Boy McKell, James Jeremiah ‘Brum’ O’Meara, Allan’s father aged 26 at the time, Sam Morey, Sam Percy squatting, Brian O’Shannesy, Dave Jones, Bill Burke and Jock Bradley.

Hi Moya,
“Brum” was my Fathers nickname. I believe he was given this nickname due to the Brum O’Meara who played for East Perth in the WAFL and later with South Melbourne in the VFL. Dad’s name was actually James Jeremiah O’Meara. However, all his documents and official records show Jeremiah James.
This not unusual for the Irish or Irish descendants to have names reversed so as not to confuse someone in one family with someone in another bearing the same birth name.
