Mulwarrie Cemetery – no broken cross of marble, white

Mulwarrie is an abandoned townsite in the North Coolgardie Goldfield of the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, 125 km northwest of Kalgoorlie and 55 km southwest of Menzies, between Davyhurst and Mulline. It was originally known as Mount Higgins; gold was first discovered there by Paddy Higgins, who later discovered gold at Higginsville. In 1900, the Mt Higgins Progress Committee wrote to the Lands Department requesting that a townsite be declared. A survey was made later that same year, and the townsite gazetted as Mulwarrie in September 1900.

The common lot of millions, dead
As the wide wild drought-stricken bush,
The weird lone landscape far outspread
Death doth appealing voices hush.

MULWARRIE  –  FUNERAL OF MRS. FUHRMANN

The remains of the late Mrs. G. Fuhrmann were interred in the Roman Catholic portion of the Mulwarrie cemetery this afternoon, in the presence of a large number of friends and relations. Several persons were present from Mulline, Davyhurst, Ularring, and Callion. The local branch of the A.M.A., of which association the bereaved husband is a prominent member, showed their respect and sympathy by marching

in a body from Mulwarrie to the cemetery. The Rev. B. Fagan, of Menzies, read the service at the grave. The deceased lady, whose connection with the district dates back to the early days, was widely known and respected for her many acts of unostentatious kindness. It is gratefully remembered that no movement of a charitable or progressive nature was undertaken in the Mulwarrie district without receiving the practical help and sympathy of Mrs. Fuhrmann. The district mourns the loss of one who could ill be spared and sympathises deeply with the deceased’s husband and young family. The funeral arrangements were quietly and efficiently carried out by Mr. G. Dalton.
