Western Mail 9 December 1899, page 166
Messrs. Boylen and Antill are the oldest established, and probably the most widely known, Kalgoorlie broking firms. They started operations early in 1896, and emerged from the spirited, but short-lived, boom of that year unscathed and prosperous. Later on, they weathered successfully the heavy slump of the two following years and were again to the fore during the recent boom, when a record was established, over one-quarter of a million shares being put through by the firm in five days.
Mr. Robert Boylen, who is a native of Melbourne, migrated to Kalgoorlie four years ago and was engaged for some time with the broking firm of Millan and Co., whose business he subsequently purchased. Mr Henry C. Antill, who hails from New South Wales, was formerly engaged in banking pursuits and was at one time connected with the provincial Press of that colony. He came to the fields in 1895, and, after spending several months prospecting at Niagara, he came to Kalgoorlie, and started a business as a stock broker. A year later he joined Mr. Boylon, and both have been associated together ever since. The firm is directly represented in London, Perth, and all the Australasian capitals, and is thus able to buy or sell for clients in either the Home, Continental, or colonial markets. Both subjects of this sketch are prominent in goldfields mining circles, and their knowledge and experience of the business in which they have embarked, combined with very extensive connections, place them in the front rank of Western Australian brokers.
