Lydia & Edgar Barclay – pioneer family

Lydia Louisa STABB was born on the 9 Oct 1874 at 10 Lewisham Rd, Prahran, Victoria and was the daughter of William STABB (deceased builder), and Caroline Ravenhill nee WALKER.

Lydia Louisa STABB (23yrs) married Edgar James BARCLAY (28yrs) in Coolgardie at the Scots Church Manse on 8 Apr 1898. Edgar’s occupation was given as a Compositor. He was the son of Alexander BARCLAY (Sawyer) and Jessie nee BELL. Both parties were from Victoria.

Children of Edgar and Lydia: All the surviving children were either born in Coolgardie or Kalgoorlie.

Jessica Estelle born 1899 Coolgardie.
Caroline Ravenhill born 1902 Kalgoorlie
Sylvia Harding born 1904 Kalgoorlie
Harry Percival born 1908 Kalgoorlie
Norman John born 1919 Perth (died under a year old)

The family remained in Coolgardie till they moved to Kalgoorlie where they lived in St Albans Road. Upon moving to Perth in 1919 Edgar became a partner in the well known printing business of Barclay & Sharland Pty. The business was still in operation under this name in 1977.
