DIED IN THE DENTIST’S CHAIR
PATIENT UNDER CHLOROFORM
KALGOORLIE Sunday – The death under chloroform of a married woman named Mary Elizabeth Christina Hannan, wife of foundry hand J Hannan of Plumber Street, Williamstown, occurred at Mr W Boxall’s dental surgery yesterday. Dr Aimee Guy Smith administered the anaesthetic and the dentist extracted all of the patient’s teeth but when an attempt was made to revive the patient she was found to have died when under the influence of the drug. Dr Smith promptly reported the matter to the police The coroner ordered a postmortem examination Deceased who was a comparatively young woman who had been given chloroform on three previous occasions without suffering any ill effects. She was only 32 years old and the mother of four young children.

Mary Elizabeth Christina Hannan was born 1 Jan 1877 in Buttlejork, Sunbury, Victoria to John Edward STARKIE and Mary Ann PIERCE. She married James Peter Hannan in West Perth WA in 1897. The couple had the following children:
James Edward born in Leederville in 1898
Mary Jane Eliza born in Leederville 1900
Eileen Barbara born in Leederville 1904
Margaret Christina born Williamstown in 1908
