A wedding with the wrong names:-

25/03/2018 By Moya Sharp 5 Comments

Although the Western Argus published the below photograph in Sept 1904, entitled ‘OLDAM-WALDERSON’ wedding, after some research it turns out to be the wedding of Robert William ALDERSON to  Isabel KELLY. I can see how Alderson could become Walderson but not sure about the Kelly. (:

Kalgoorlie Western Argus (WA : 1896 – 1916), Tuesday 23 August 1904, page 16

ALDERSON—KELLY – On the 30th July, at Presbyterian Church, Menzies, Robert ALDERSON J P of Edjudina, son of the late Robert Alderson, Hampstead, England, to Isabel, third daughter of the late William Kelly, of Mintaro. South Australia,  the Rev J. Haynes officiating.

Some additional information has been sent in by OFH reader Denis Edwards:-

Robert Alderson enlisted at Kalgoorlie on the 4 Mar 1915 at Kalgoorlie and was in the 7th rein./11th batt service no 2338. He served in Gallipoli then France where he was Killed in action on the  25 July 1916 aged 45. He was born in Hampstead England. Isabel died about the 31 July 1917 at Kalgoorlie. No living relatives could be located for either and Robert’s War medals and memorial scroll was not claimed. A brother-in-law of Isabel a Mr Teesdale could not be found. I will look at Roberts Family in the uk. Isobels father William Kelly was from the Isle of Mann he died at Mintaro South Australia 19 June 1874.

    Hi Moya
I was researching siblings of my great-gran Elizabeth Kelly and was pleased to stumble upon your Alderson/Kelly wedding photo of 1904.
    Isabel was Elizabeth’s sister.
Sadly the happy couple had short lives … Robert died on the Western Front in 1916, while Isabel died the very next year in Boulder.
Sadly, I cannot find a headstone.
Thanks for your work … Pete Couper
