Hello Michael. I’m one of the Goulburn Valley Mulcahys, who arrived in Melbourne from Tipperary in the 1850s. We were always amused that my mother, Mrs Jim Mulcahy, had a close friend from Perth, Lucy Kiernan, whose father was a Michael Mulcahy and whose brother was a Jim Mulcahy. My father was also a Jim Mulcahy, his father a Daniel Mulcahy, and his favourite uncle a Michael Mulcahy. I wonder whether your Mulcahy great-great-grandparents, hoteliers in Ireland, were related to my tipperary Mulcahy forebears, James and Ellena Mulcahy who married in 1839 and were of an earlier generation presumably? I remember your grandmother Lucy very well, and her husband Barney and two sons Michael and Peter. Peter looked so much like my great-grandfather James that I have always felt were were all from the same great Irish stock!
