I would like to let everyone know about the ‘Memorial Garden’ that has been established at the ‘Mining Hall of Fame’.

Last year saw the placement of the first personal memorial to a miner who was killed in an accident at work.  The staff at the Mining Hall of Fame were so very helpful in arranging the beautiful garden at the rear of the Chinese garden for the placement of personal plaques and memorials. It was a community effort to have the ‘Gausten’ stone removed to its present location.

Recently I moved our own memorial for our son ‘Andrew (Andy) Heaney died 2/5/2004)’ to sit next to Phillip.

Andy’s stone was erected by his workmates at the Super Pit and when the expansion of that section of the pit the memorial stone and plaque was moved to our family grave in the Kalgoorlie Cemetery. However, as we have our own family plaque at the cemetery we feel that this is a much more fitting place for this stone and we are proud to have it there. I am sure that they will be the first of others also to be erected.
