The Spain and Powell Family Album

We are fortunate that we are able to see these wonderful photographs taken in Kalgoorlie in the 1940-50’s. Many of you may remember the Spain and Powell families! I would like to thank David Spain for allowing me to share these and they are also courtesy of Davids late parents – Beryl Anne Spain (nee Powell) and Milton Edward Spain. We look forward to more photos from the album.
GUESS WHAT?:-   David and his brothers and sisters attended North Kalgoorlie Primary School. My husband Norm was also there and knew the family.  When David contacted me and he mentioned his mothers maiden name of ‘Powell’ I asked him, if by any chance he is related to the ‘Powell’s’ in Albany, as this is my mother in laws family. Well yes you guessed it ‘he is’ and we are now related. It is a somewhat tenuous link with a very complicated family tree but a definite connection.  You just never know do you??  This has re ignited Norms cousin in Albany and I, to get back to our own family history research.

Hello Moya, Spain is not the most common of surnames. I remember during my life in Gwalia, 1937-48,
that the Roman Catholic priest in Leonora was named Spain, can’t recall his first name. I wonder if he
came from this Spain family ?
